That's not a bad build tbh, I'd water down the motherboard and CPU cooler considering the CPU is locked, but good otherwise.

 

Do you have any plans for a hard drive?

Some people like z97 so they can OC their gpu, and get a regular cpu and simply oc it by four bits. To save money.

(Before you ask, I didn't do this. :P)

K - Overclockable

Non K - Not Overcockable.

The motherboard doesnt affect the GPU overclock, The 960 has external power via a 8pin connector.

You can still get a very small overclock on non K series i5s and i7s. :)

Yes, But pretty much any motherboard and CPU cooler would be able to handle it.

Yes and no. I will feel iffy about using a stock cooler for that, might work though. Also, locked boards can't over clock. Period. They do not have the software support.
