Hi guys,

So i need to buy a new printer and first of all what do you recommend Inkjet or Laser?

The main use of the printer i need would be for printing out school documents, however every now and then it would be needed to print out photos. The printer often may go without use for weeks(i don't know if the affects anything).

The reason i need a new printer is because the ink for the printer i previously had was way to expensive and most of the time the printer was not out of ink, the chip on the ink just stopped it from working. Which annoyed me.

So basically all i want is a cheap printer (around £100 or less) which is cheap to run (good cost to page ratio). scanner/copier is a plus but not needed. Also i don't mind about other features.

Laser used to be much cheaper than ink over time, but the prices have gotten closer as time has gone on, and for photo printing, ink jets are usually better (A laser printer that can print decent quality photos are usually VERY expensive).

I'm in a similar position as you, and will more than likely pick up an HP Officejet 8100 (after having used a laser jet --HP 2600n-- for the past 10+ years).

You probably won't find a laser printer for that price unless it is used, and doesn't print in color. For that reason you should go inkjet. For cheap ink I would look into getting some type of printer that you could hook a continuous ink system up to. This would save you a lot on ink costs.
