over clocking

i have a XFX radeon r9 280x that has a base clock of 850 mhz

 

i overclocked it to 1202 mhz is this a good overclock and any tips on getting it any higher

Increase power target, temp target and voltage

Overvolting is safe. I would recommend a max of +50mV

and im using msi afterburner to oc if that helps

Yeah, first use 5 runs on Heaven at ultra settings, and then play some BF4 and Titanfall to determine stability

Older versions of afterburner overclock better than the newer ones 

Afterburner doesnt like my graphics card, tried EVGA precision X and got it to 1478Mhz stable, wheras afterburner crapped out at around 1420Mhz

wow. Most overclocks people only ever stay at 1100ish. IMO keep pushing till things get unstable.

Its just the skin, u can change it in the settings

The best u can do is increase voltage to +20mV, and set power limit to 110% and see where u go from there

msi wont let me unlock the core voltage any reasons why

If it's stable even with that clock you don't have to increase the voltage or power limit something like that, increasing voltage just make your GPU warmer.

Doesnt make a heck of a difference since it is 1/100 of a typical CPU voltage increase when overclocking

Havent noticed any temp increases with my card cos it is now at 37mV

If you don't see any temp increase then it's okay.
