Reinstall Windows 8

Go to solution Solved by tmlhalo,

I see,

well even when i use avast + malwarebytes premium

the avast makes my disk usage 40%++ idle

so is using windows defender + malwarebytes premium enough ?

i usually download movies via torrent

and my laptop is still windows 8, if i upgrade to 8.1 , and want to reset , can i still do it?

That combo may work. Windows 8.1 is kinda like a service pack. If you ever reinstall Windows 8, I believe an 8.1 iso will take a Windows 8 key. If not, you can just use 8 then redownload the 8.1 update anyways.

I want to reinstall my Asus N56VZ laptop using the windows 8 feature (remove everything and reinstall windows)

because i have a lot of virus , although i already scan it using avast, i still believe that there's alot of viruses left

well , its my brothers laptop that he gave to me

so i asked if the OS comes out of the box with the laptop, or did he buy a seperate OS

he said that it come out of the box, but not sure

is there anyway to make it 100% sure ?

and i have a few more questions

1)what is a bloatware?

2)how do i reinstall windows without the bloatware?

3)When choosing to remove everything and reinstall windows , do i choose Just Remove Files , or Fully Clean The Drive ?

4)How long does it take to reinstalled it using fully clean the drive ?

5)once the reinstalled is finished , should i choose express settings from microsoft or customize ?

6)the microsoft account in this laptop is using my brothers account, and i want to make my own

can i make a new account in the settings? (or can i use the same account from my PC?)

7)do i need to update the drivers again ? and if so , what do i update?

TIA

1. Bloatware is stuff shoved on to your computer that you probably will never use. It is stuff like the free trials of Quicken Taxes, and what ever other companies cut a deal for their product to come pre installed. A lot of non tech literate people never really venture outside the ecosystem that is included on their machines.
2. You might be able to do so with Windows refresh but a Windows iso from microsoft instead of Dell, HP, etc will be completely clean. There may be other options but I always use a non OEM iso.
3. I fully clean the drive if I am forced to reinstall the OS. Just the better course of action considering what ever issue was happening was to the point of making you do a Windows reinstall.
4. Depends on your internet connection. Most of it is downloading Windows updates and drivers. Usually takes me 4-8 hours on 12 Mb/s.
5. Customize
6. I believe Windows 8 locks the key to their microsoft account. Though I can't say with certainty what happens with OEM keys from HP, Dell, etc.
7. You'll probably need the wireless driver on a usb once the installation is finished. You'll want to reinstall all the drivers from the manufacturer's web page for that laptop.

1)Ok

2)i dont understand , sorry

3)well, i reinstall windows just to make my PC clean because it has a lot of virus, even though it is still pretty fast

4)i hesitated to do the full clean , because my internet is slow, its like 600kbps/s and often disconnect

5)which one should i choose in customize ? should i follow the customization in the vid in number 6?

6)i see, but from this vid, hes using a different account ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4q8fhGZHBU (he sign in without an ID?)

7)http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=N56VZ&os=30 from this web , i download all of them ?

2. The second post I made has details about the refresh option.

3,4. Refresh may be the better option for you because of the internet. It is a trick Microsoft has added to Windows 8. Here is more information on it.

http://www.infoworld.com/article/2619765/microsoft-windows/windows-8-refresh--a-great-feature--if-you-know-the-limitations.html

I wouldn't do command line. You can get to it by going to restart your PC, holding shift before you click restart, keep holding shift while the PC restarts til it prompts you with the special screen.

5. You delete every single old partition and format the single volume of unallocated space if you choose that method. I don't believe refresh will prompt you to do so.

6. Choose local account like they did in the video.

7. Most of them even if you do the refresh option except for the EMI and safety manual, BIOS, BIOS utilities, Whatever ones you don't want from under the normal utilities tab, and the manual.

and i have a few more questions

1)what is a bloatware?

Bloatware is software that is bloat, i.e slows down and clutters your system and you don't beed it. It is usually bundled my manufactuers because they were paid by software companies.

2)how do i reinstall windows without the bloatware?

The best option would be to download an ISO straight from Microsoft, create an installer disc, remove all partitions and reinstall from the disc.

3)When choosing to remove everything and reinstall windows , do i choose Just Remove Files , or Fully Clean The Drive ?

Choose 'just remove my files', as fully cleaning means overwriting every single bit on the hard drive. A full clean is good if you're going to sell your PC because that makes it impossible to recover your data, but it takes much longer.

4)How long does it take to reinstalled it using fully clean the drive ?

1-5 hours depending on the size of the drive.

5)once the reinstalled is finished , should i choose express settings from microsoft or customize ?

Customize. Disable Bing. Leave everything else at defaults. That's what I do. You can look through the settings and disable what you think need disabling. But keep Windows Update enabled.

6)the microsoft account in this laptop is using my brothers account, and i want to make my own

can i make a new account in the settings? (or can i use the same account from my PC?)

After reinstalling Windows, you will prompted to create an account. If you won't reinstall, you can create your own account and delete your brother's.

7)do i need to update the drivers again ? and if so , what do i update?

If installing from a Microsoft ISO, yes. I suggest getting the graphics driver all the time, and (W)LAN + Audio if they're not working out of the box.

Thank you for the answers !

1)Okay Understood ! :)

2)But if i choose the windows 8 feature (remove everything and reinstall windows) it's still as good as reinstalling windows from ISO files right?

3)By doing Just Removing Files, it will wipe all of the virus too ? and the virus can't recovered?

4)I Have a 1TB and planning to do the Removing Files if it can wipe the virus and the virus can't be recovered

5)Other than Enabling Windows Update, the rest that i think i don't need i can disable without damaging my laptop right? i'm afraid that i uncheck something that i shouldn't

6)Sorry Still don't quiet get this one (my english is very poor :(  ) , If i use Removing Files i can create a new account and i don't need to delete my brother's account because it will automatically be wiped right ? or am i wrong ?

7)If i just use Removing Files i don't need to update any drivers? Note: I never updated my drivers since i bought this laptop 2 years ago :(

And i do not need my serial key right ? because i can't find my windows 8 disc, either its built in on the laptop or i lost the disc :(

It is hard to understand what you're exactly asking. No offense, I'm not sure some of the mixed up terminology is from a inexperience or is English a second language? If it is inexperience I'd almost advice just using an overkill antivirus on it to clean it up. Bitdefender will give you a 30 day free trail. You just install it, run it, have it remove everything, then uninstall bitdefender then pick up a free antivirus like Avast free or AVG free, and Malwarebytes.

The USB / DVD with the Windows install is the method most people use to reinstall their OS. It will leave nothing behind from the previous Windows that was on the computer. People usually recommend custom install because it is the only way to guarantee everything is exactly how you want. Including deletion and formatting of the previous partitions the old Windows made. Once the installation is done, you will have no drivers. Everything from the Asus website except the ones I excluded in my last post will have to be installed for Windows to function with all the hardware, on top of the GPU driver which will need to be grabbed from NVIDIA or AMD's site respectfully. The NIC (wireless and wired internet connections) won't even work and you'll need to transfer the driver via USB from another computer to the laptop. Downloading all the drivers and updates will take the longest time.

The other method is the System refresh. That is extremely new and I have no experience working with. It will be easier to use, and it deletes everything but personal documents, pictures, etc. The previous OS and applications will be gone. Can viruses make it through it? No idea. But it would be the simplest one to do besides just using a 30 day trial of a premium antivirus to get rid of them.

if it's make a different, i will not reinstall windows

and i also have 1 thing to concern about

i have alot of program that i installed and uninstalled, and the uninstalled program is leaving folders in local disk C

that is 50% the main reason i want to reinstall

No problem, blank folders don't really impact performance. You can download something like CCleaner and run the registry tool to fix all the left behind registry keys.

I already using ccleaner premium

Right now i already scanning using bitdefender antivirus plus 2015 free

Bitdefender uses a lot of disk usage on idle huh?

Yup, it passively scans other active processes while idle. Unless you meant while actively scanning, those go through the entire hard drive.

I mean when idle

So it will make my pc slower if i want to keep this av ?

It will have a minor performance impact. Unless you have a habit of downloading odd stuff, I'd personally go with a smaller AV. Like avast free + Malwarebytes. Bitdefender is just what I recommend for when you need a one time clean up and free AV aren't catching it.

That combo may work. Windows 8.1 is kinda like a service pack. If you ever reinstall Windows 8, I believe an 8.1 iso will take a Windows 8 key. If not, you can just use 8 then redownload the 8.1 update anyways.
