So, I've been looking for a machine for college and considering tablets or laptops...but I think I've made up my mind that I want a quad core i7 budget laptop with integrated graphics. I'm now wondering wether haswell laptops matching my description will be out soon.....

It seems like I can find stuff on the high end with advanced Nvidia graphics but can't find any with just plain iris 5200 pro graphics. So is this stuff coming within like a month or two? I've heard the graphics performance is a LOT better than something like HD 4000 graphics and of course I want the better battery life so I don't wanna settle for third gen intel. Anybody got anything?

I can go round $750 at the higher end of my budget?

You should quote posts otherwise other members don't get notifications for your response.

The cheapest i7 haswell laptops I can find are $900.

Why do you even need an i7? Other than rendering/editing music/video, I see little reason to get a laptop with an i7.

I'd rather get a thinkpad or a notebook with dedicated graphics and stick an hdd caddy and an ssd in it.

Edit: I haven't even found a single notebook with the graphics you're speaking of. Is it even out yet?

And I'd like a quad core because I do notice a big difference in multitasking between dual cores and multi cores like my six core on my desktop...idk. Do you think there'll be a big difference in general use?

The biggest difference you can do to smoothen general use would to make sure there's an ssd for your os/applications.

2 cores/4 threads will do fine. Like desktops, i5's are work just as fine on a laptop. As long as the cores are fast enough, you'll be fine. I generally shoot for at least 2.4ghz.

The Y410p is Haswell, i7 Quad Core and starts at $799 http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y410p/

only thing is , that's kinda outta my price range. If I can get a good fourth gen intel CPU with those new integrated graphics for around $600, I'll buy that and put an ssd in there. I just don't need any Nvidia or amd graphics solution, I need all the battery life I can get and the integrated HD 5200 or HD 4600, whatever it'll be, will work fine for me
