Planning to build my first pc, I've picked out a list of parts that it suitable for my needs. Wondering if there are any potential issues that can be seen in this build, such as bottlenecking, and what not. Since this is my first build, I want this to work out as smoothly as possible. Thanks!

I don't believe you'd want an SSD for this. You'd have to sacrifice real performance parts to get one. If you want to focus on real performance, then I suggest the following build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($219.95 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($29.99 @ Directron)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($86.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston Fury Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($60.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($48.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Diamond Radeon R9 290 4GB Video Card  ($259.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($51.99 @ Micro Center)
Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($44.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $803.87

If you feel like you must have the luxury of an SSD, then I'd get this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($179.69 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($75.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston Fury Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($60.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($94.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($48.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Diamond Radeon R9 290 4GB Video Card  ($259.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($51.99 @ Micro Center)
Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($44.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $817.61
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Also, the S340 does not need additional fans for a one card solution. Move the top exhaust fan to a front intake, and it should be enough for most rigs power output. Remember, even an i5-4690k doesn't put out much heat. The R9 290 will, but the 140mm exhaust fan is sufficient for the most part.

Generally once you hit the budget of 800$ its better to go with intel, because of more powerful cores, compared to AMD.

I kept mostly everything the same however...I also replaced the GPU and got you cheaper components

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

Thanks for the replies, I like the direction the new builds are aimed in, but I would prefer if I could keep the same storage as my original plan. I need at least 2TB on an HDD, an ssd is luxury, but if it's cheap I can spare the expense. I'd prefer to have both, but if the new build's budget is going over $850, I can live without an ssd.

If you're going to go for 2TB, might as well go for 3. It's only a tiny bit more. The Seagate Barracuda is also sufficiently fast for a primary drive.
