Why does it seem that mobo companies have these two main lines, gaming and overclokcing. I know that these are the main pc enthusiasts and that what they will be doing but why isn't there a gaming board that really good at oc or an oc borad that is alos really good for gaming? Idk I just don't like that those are really the only two enthusiast board options.

Pretty much any board is technically good for gaming. Performance differences between boards is small.

Yah I suppose I just don't like how they really call the boards oc boards and gaming ones. Is it only the features that are different between the two?

well all boards that are good for overclocking will provide a great gaming experience because

-you can eek out every bit of performance

-it has high quality parts,stability

-it has decent chipset/vrm cooling

and most gaming boards still have good quality parts,so they are still good for overclocking.

for example the msi GD65,it is branded as a gaming board, but it is great for overclocking as well.

the msi mpower is a phenomenal overclocking board, but it's great for gaming as well.

typically good boards are good boards, regardless of use case.

What other "enthusiast" options would you want? I agree, any board can be good for gaming. The only "gaming" feature I could see one board having over another would be the ethernet controller. OC boards usually have better voltage regulators and whatnot for the CPU. I love my Maximus V Gene, but it is probably complete overkill, as I am not overclocking till I get a better cooler.

No. All "gaming" gear is low end stuff that looks corny with a bunch of red and stuff. Look at MSI, the Gamer GD65 is the same as the regular GD45 with a red corny dragon heatsink.

Some people identify as gamers more than overclockers and vice-versa. It's a marketing ploy.

A ''gaming'' board has better onboard audio and lan connection. Most of the OC grade boards already have these, and much more. On the other side, an OC board is a more advanced board, with tons of OC grade features, like onboards dials for voltage, clocks, bclk, voltage readpoints, waaaay better power delivery, auxiliary power plugs fir both cpu and gpu. This list may continue, but my point is any, but any OC grade board is gaming optimised.

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

No it also has more power phases, the 65 has 12 and the 45 has 8.

I just wish that it wasn't a stupid marketing gimmick like it seems to be.

"Let's add 2 features and a paintjob, call it gaming"- MSI Officials. Now don't get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE their GD65 board, not the gaming edition. But this marketing is driving me nuts. Enthusiasts are gamers and the other way around. I want to live the day when they will promote a H87 board as gaming locking up overclocking and separating these two intercommunicating branches.
