So for the past couple of days I've had my monitors go black (or some other dark grey/pinkish color) about three times so far. I bought two Gigabyte R9 270x's (here) used and they were previously mined with. I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing them, so I don't want to jump straight to the conclusion that one or both of them are failing. So that's where I need help. What kind of troubleshooting can I do to narrow down the problem?

Specs:

i5 3570k

Asrock Z77 Extreme4

16GB G.Skill DDR3 1600

2x Gigabyte 270x

750w OCZ

Thanks in advanced!

have you replaced the monitor cables?

replace them or swap the position of the connections to verify

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I've switched them over to a couple HDMI cables now, but I suspect this isn't the problem, since the audio of videos or music stops about 10 seconds after the screens go blank as if the computer freezes.

All three times I did have a youtube video going, the first two times it was a 60 fps video, the third was normal video. I thought it may have been the 60fps, but then it happened with regular video. I do watch quite a few videos so it also could be just coincidental timing.

Ok have you tried a driver reinstall? Also test the gpu one by one and see which gpu may be causing the crash

I'm taking it one by one waiting to see if it crashes after the cord switch. Still hasn't crashed since so we'll see, then I'll try these.

Also if you have not done a bios update. It may be a good idea to do so. Also you can look for a new CF bridge. Just to be sure these have been ruled out as the cause of the problem. When you do the driver install. Make sure the old drivers have been removed completely using Display driver uninstall.

  • 2 weeks later...

I haven't had a crash since until tonight, and I'm 99% positive it has something to do with chrome/youtube videos. I'm going to try and figure out how to replicate the problem and test each GPU. If anyone has had this problem or knows what it might be, I'm open for any help.
