"Upgrading" screen panels?

I've always wanted to know (and Google hasn't been the biggest help) if you can swap out the TN panel of a desktop monitor with an IPS panel. I have an ASUS VS228H-P and really would like some better contrast as well as viewing angles. Is it possible to swap the panels for less than what the monitor costs or should I just kill this whole idea?
