Unknown problem

I've been working on my legacy media center and the last time I had it turned on (a few days ago) it took a while to save the changed I had made in the bios (boot priorities). Today I received 2 20GB HDD and installed them along with my FX 5500, and noticed that the keyboard wasn't working, I received the bios checksum error on the normal post screen, and after a restart I didn't even see the standard post screen. I've reset the bios several times.
This is what happens:

I know the keyboard is fine as it works on my main computer, and the LEDs flash occasionally when I attempt to get the computer to boot. Is there anything I can do to fix this? As its going to be a long time before I manage to get my spare s370 motherboard repaired.

Remove the HDD's and then retry. If it works, try different sata ports.

Uuhhh, this motherboard pre-dates SATA by quite a few years, and even USB 2.0. I just tried it now with none of the IDE cables connected and the molex connectors unplugged and had the same problems. And 20GB is a lot better than 420MB, which is the size of the HDD that I was using previously (Linux installed as the OS).

This is a review from 2000, Tom's Hardware was wrong about a few things, such as the CPUs supported-anything up to a Pentium 3 1GHz works- and the speed of the IDE interface. It gives the basic rundown though on it.

Bios Checksum Errors normally indicate a dead CMOS battery, going on the age of the board I'd swap this out first. If the battery is dead, then it will be resetting to defaults every time you power off.
