Getting an SSD

Go to solution Solved by athesean1,

im pretty sure that the evo is alot slower but cheaper, the 850 pro is very fast, while intel ssd's have been known for their reliability, when i get my pc im getting a 730 series, but in the end it comes down to what you need and what yoiu want to spend.

hope this helped your choice :P

I decided to go with the Intel 730 series 480gb because I wanted a lot more reliability over a slight amount of speed. Thanks for your help everyone.

Original Post

Hello everyone!
I am looking to get an SSD. I've been looking at the Intel 730 480gb, Samsung 850 Evo or Pro in 500gb or 512gb respectively. All of them are currently in sale at Newegg.

The reason I want it so big is so I can also install Battlefield on it for faster loading. Most other games I will leave on my hard drive (almost all if not all). I am mostly looking for speed, but if there isn't much of a real world difference I will probably get whatever is most reliable.

Just to clarify, I will be using it as a boot drive and installing normal programs on it.

I cannot figure out what would be the best. Are there any major differences between the Evo and the Pro? If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

i think the pro is more optimized for professional use or something like that, and it has a longer warranty. If you are going the samsung route ( which i highly recommend if you have the money) get an 850 evo.

I had to post the first topic fast so I left out some information (has since been updated). The reason I want it so big is so I can also install Battlefield on it for faster loading. Most other games I will leave on my hard drive (almost all if not all). I am mostly looking for speed but if there isn't much of a real world test difference I might just go for Intel because of the reliability. All are currently on sale at Newegg.

Hey Geotan,

there is a difference between the performance of the different SSDs, but it is not that big and when it comes to loading games, the difference would be a couple of seconds at most. If it's only for gaming, I would get the better deal that is out there. :)

I will not just be using it for gaming. I am going to install the Windows 10 technical preview on it (and use it as my boot drive, and install normal programs and stuff, all the usual), then when the full version comes install that. I am only going to install Battlefield games on it probably, just because it has really big maps and stuff. So only around 150gb will be used by that, maximum. If there isn't much real-world difference I will probably get the Intel one.
