there is a few methods of repair.  U can do the eraser method where you use a new white eraser and work at it.  Eventually it will smooth down.  The other method is vaseline.  It can be applied and rubbed into the affected area.  You then wipe it off with  a fine cloth and that should fix for a bit also.  If you cannot notice it in games then I would not even bother.  You can look these things up on youtube if you aren't sure.

Replacing the screen might not cost as much as you think, down side is you'll need to start pulling your machine apart to make sure you get the right part number. I've replaced a coulle of HP Pavillion screens you can pick up a replacement panel for £40-60
