Nope, that motherboard is compatible with DDR3 (2133 on XMP)

Hey so aside from the obvious DDR type on ram, will anything else affect compatibility? Will certain rams with the right DDR type just not be compatible? 

Heres the mobo and ram I'm considering in a new build: 

ASUS M5A99fx Pro R2.0 with Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1866 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) 

Are there any compatibility issues? How can I tell?

Other than DDR3, make sure it's not laptop RAM (SO-DIMM).

Other than that, you should be good to go.

Its typically recommended to get 1.5V or lower voltage RAM. Lower voltage = lower heat.

I once had an issue with 1600 MHz Sodimms that simply wouldn't run at the supported 1066MHz or 1333MHz on an HP mobile workstation, so I guess sometimes you can run into issues. Fact is that on the desktop side I've never had an issue.

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q
