Hello,

This is my first post on Linus, and I hope I can get some help...

I'm wondering what desktop setup would be best for me. As a side note, my budget is around 700-900 AUD.

My 'Ol' Faithful' PC (I shitake mushrooms you not, it lasted a good 12 years) is gradually slowing down and I'm thinking of changing the parts, not just getting a whole new desktop. It would run my favourite games such as Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod at around 35fps on all high settings, including AA, which was great, despite having a Pentium CPU and a GeForce GT (which, from what I heard, was 1337 5p34k for shitake mushrooms).

I've already got the power supply, case and all the accessories needed, I just need to change the basics like the CPU and GPU.

I am only 14, though, and I don't know much about computers, but I am willing to learn. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what the new specifications should look like?

Thanks,

UltimateJolteon

You know what? I actually don't know. It doesn't have any labeling on it, but it IS made by Huntkey, and it is a full ATX case.

The PSU is fine, as my brother (who is an IT technician) says it can handle an upgrade.

EDIT: I'm not thinking of overclocking, as it could cause problems.

OK, after some contemplating, I've decided on a rough setup.

Here are my old specs which I finally found...

CPU: Pentium E5200

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT (Which I realise should really be replaced... and fast.)

(The other specifications don't matter at this time.)

My new specs would look like this.

CPU: Intel i5-4460 (Balanced between the i3's low cost and the 4690's high performance.)

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti

More/upgraded RAM may help too.

Unfortunately, I've checked my budget ; I can only afford one part at a time with my current standing. So, my question is - which would give me the biggest boost? Better CPU, better GPU or more RAM?

(P.S : I sincerely apologise for any sudden self-harm to the facial region via the means of a desk or a hand. I'm not that technical.)
