Hi All,

Just wondering if you could help out.

I have just built a mini its pc for a bit of gaming and htpc usage.

Now in some games I think i might either be hitting a bottleneck or its just my pc's limits.

In most games the cpu is at around 97%-100% load and GPU sits from 40%-70% never really higher.

I tried with Project Cars, Thief, FarCry 4, Battlefield 4, Dying Light. All at 1080p 60hz and high to ultra settings without any filtering like AA but when it comes to game play sometimes its smooth then other times in the game its choppy and drops frames like crazy. I hit 60fps+ on Assassins Creed unity then goes down to like 20Fps in bursts. I notice it when i turn corners or enter new parts of maps mostly.

Any advise would be great on if i should change to an I5 4440 or something or if its something else maybe?

Intel G3258 OC to 4.4Ghz

Asrock h81m-itx

Segate SSHD 500gb

8GB HyperX ram 1600mhz

Powercolor AMD R9 285

I was initially going to go for the i5 4440 but fancied a bit of overclocking ha but i think i have been a sucker and brought into the g3258 hype..... on all these benchmark reviews online it shows how it keeps up with i5's and things when overclocked but it seems no.... i dont want to turn the detail down on games i like the shiny reflections and things ha......

Would it be worth spending a bit more for a k i5 and o/c it a bit or do you think the 4440 will cope just fine?

Thanks for the help :)

If I were you, I'd spring for a 4690K and OC the piss out of it.

Ha i might do.... Done some overtime at work this month so have a few hundred more to play with this month :) the MOBO isn't a killer gaming/overclocking board but it does allow for k series CPU's to be overclocked so i might have a go :)

Some of the games you mention are pretty notorious for bad performance though. Even an i5 won't prevent the framedrops in games like far cry 4 or unity.

Oh right.... im pretty happy with the gpu end of it.. runs very cool.... slightly overclocked and hasnt hit 100% load yet so thats what made me think its a bottleneck. My previous pc had an i5 2500k and gtx 760 and played everything on pretty much full... i sold that system when i moved but that seemed pretty good at most things.
