Portable drive question.

Im looking to buy a couple of portable drives, one for myself and one for my dad, im mainly just gonna use it to move files around and probably a small backup drive that can i store somewhere safe with "valuable" data, my dad tho bought a samsung tv not long ago and would like to record shows and things like that, its a older model which does not have a build in harddrive.

 

My question is, what is the best solution, i have been looking at the WD My Passport Ultra 500gb, but im not sure if its compatible with a samsung tv, my guess is that it would be since it atleast gets power over usb, but im not sure how good that drive is or if someone can suggest something better.

Almost every external hdd can run with samsung tv, also using external wd hdd 500gb.

What is the origin of the shows? I wouldn't think you could record from the tv to a hard drive. The USB ports are for accessing data.

You can go with My Passport since it takes power from USB port of the TV.
