Installing Kraken X61 help

I will be installing the kraken x61 on my first ever pc I dont have a stock cooler or anything so Im not gonna post it outside the case and pray everything works that is installed. I watched NZXT's video and it says I should have the software installed then plug in the usb header. The video is here. Has anyone installed it prior to even having windows installed? with the usb header plugged in without the software installed?
