i7 4790k quad core with hyper threading

if you don't want to spend that much, get a xeon e3. still quad cores with hyper-threading and all features of an i7

i5-4690K or i7-4790K would serve you nicely I reckon. 

 

They would also allow you to overclock them.

so i use a mac i think its an i5 is the i5 4690k similar to that?

will the i5 4690k bottleneck the 980 if i get one?

yes

no

 

i5 are without hyperthreads, meaning you "only" get 4 cores, but if you're gonna do just a bit of editing, that's perfectly fine

and no, that cpu won't bottleneck a 980
