Hello,

I'm new to the diy computer world and I have build my pc a little while ago and everything seemed fine, I always had realtemp running on startup and my temperatures went up really slowly without me noticing (talking about 1C/week) until I realized that my core temp was 55 C at idle. But when I pushed against my heatsink and the temperatures quickly went down to about 40 C. Should I remount my cooler with new paste or is it fine? Also I downgraded to Windows 8 and noticed that my CPU seems to boost up the GHz without it being necessarily when (cpu at 3% and running more than 5 GHz) Also task manager says that the maximum speed is 5.90 GHz but my cpu sometimes goes up to 6.26 GHz. If have a few screenshots running prime 95. [Just after login], [high idle], [low idle (very rare)], [load prime 95], [prime 95 results] (note: the cpu load dropped at the 4th test to 80% but it still says 100% till the 8th test).

I did no manual overclocking yet.

But in short: Are these temps fine for a long cpu life? and is it normal (or bad) that my cpu is boosting itself up so much?

Thanks in advance!

*Update

I tried the quick boost level 1 button that comes with easytune 6. When I rebooted my ssd and my hdd weren't detected anymore. I tried to replug the sata cables but no success. I ended up reseting CMOS and my ssd and hdd worked again but task manager still reads these values. I will try to disable Intel Turbo Boost Technologies and see what happens now.
I think it's something with the software (as ExDreamer said)

*2th Update

By disabling Intel Turbo Boost Technologies It doesn't go above the "Maximum speed" from the task manager and I use more % of my CPU when I'm doing normal stuff, I can't really tell if I have less performance because I almost never max out my cpu.

In CPU-z Idle: The Core Speed is now alternating between 1200.00 MHz and 2400.00  MHz
Load: The Core speed is +- 3200.00 MHz

that is one crazy overclock you have

Cpu: Intel i7 4770k @4.4 Ghz | Case: Corsair 350D | Motherbord: Z87 Gryphon | Ram: dominator platinum 4X4 1866 | Video Card: SLI GTX 980 Ti | Power Supply: Seasonic 1000 platinum | Monitor: ACER XB270HU | Keyboard: RK-9100 | Mouse: R.A.T. 7 | Headset : HD 8 DJ | Watercooled

CPU-z

On idle:  Core speed alternating between +-3200.00 MHz and +-1200.00 MHz and the multiplier is alternating between x 32.0 and x 12.0. The Core Voltage is between 0.888 V and 0.936 V
On load:  Core speed constant 3200.xx MHz and the multiplier is constant x 32. The Core voltage is 1.140 V

I'm quite surprise that your pc did not BSOD after reaching that frequency using air cooler.Might be faulty sensor or software though.Have you try check your frequency using cpu-z?

ok a few questions...

1. How can u overclock that much (6.26 is what i saw) with just an air cooler? You must be very lucky if ur processor is running that cool at such high frequencies.

2. How can u even downgrade to Windows 8 if 8 is the latest OS?

3. HOW IS UR PROCESSOR NOT THAT HOT????? I mean seriously, even when the processor is under load, u still are at only at like 60 degrees.

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

1. I don't know why task manager shows these frequencies. I did not overclock anything! It's doing this by itself.

2. The overall experience worse do I call it a downgrade but this is just personal.

3. I don't even know which temperatures are hot and which aren't. That's why I'm asking it

So I don't know either what is going on here.
