140mm rear exhaust fan

Lays

Hey guys, I need a rear exhaust fan, i'm using a noctua nf-f12 as a temporary replacement but I want to get an actual 140mm fan to push that little bit extra air since I have my second 780 now.

Any advice?

I've tried using a 120mm corsair SP120 high performance that I undervolted, but the things are just so dam loud, but I'd like to try an airflow-oriented fan considering thats what they're for lol

Edit:  Also I had a quick question, my intake fan on my haf x blows through my HDD cages, and what would be into my motherboard/graphics card area, but the coolermaster haf X comes with a "plastic" shroud that goes over the psu/ cable routing holes to hide cables.  Should I try removing this to increase airflow? I feel as if all the air intaked goes into that instead of into my case

Here's a picture, although this isn't my case, I just googled to show it faster.

The Corsair AF series (low noise versions) are perfectly fine to move some air out of the back of the case. If you're alright with noctua, then I've been using NF-P14s to move air out of the back.

Oh, also they have a more AF optimised fan, the NF-S12A (http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=55&lng=en) that might be worth a look if its sole purpose is rear-venting.

To your point about the shroud, do you have a single fan in the front? If so, what size is it currently? I'm not familiar with the case fan. If you have an option to put a second in the front I would definitely opt to do so. The shroud I guess does help to hide the cable mess and it shouldn't impede airflow too much since the cables would disrupt it anyway.

Does the nf-s12a move more air than the nf-p14? I want as much air moved out as I can for the littlest amount of noise, and I'll probably be plugging in the fan to my h100i pwm splitter to control it with corsair link 2, so I wanna make sure I get the best fan possible

And to answer your question:  single 230mm spectre pro fan, i stuck my hand inside the shroud, and the air in there feels colder, while outside the shroud it doesn't, I'm unsure if that air gets pushed out or just sits down there doing nothing lol

The only issue is that for their airflow-specific fans like the S12A you're restricted to 120mm (hence 12) so you could take a look at this:
http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=which_fan_is_right_for_me&lng=en

But I guess to maximise your performance, the NF-14 has higher airflow/noise ration than the NF-P14 so I guess it's their ideal 140mm fan for airflow. if you get the flx version you'll get the noise adapters.

It says it's successor is the nf-a15, but thats a 150mm, and it moves less air :( but I think I'll either go with the s12 or p14, I need to get rid of that air as fast as possible, my SLI cards aren't blower style so all the hot air gets stuck in there, I don't think the nf-f12 is getting rid of it quick enough lol

The NF-*14 series are successors to the NF P14, so that includes both NFA15 and NF A14 as the NF P14 is a CPU fan. The NF-S12A is the successor to the S12B and is their main case fan for airflow optimisation, but at 120mm. I'd go with the NF-A14 over the P14 as the A14 has been designed to succeed the P14 in both pressure and airflow/noise ratio.

It's probably more important to bring in fresh cool air btw, so you might need to look at increasing your intake fans. The graphics cards usually blow air out the back of the case if they can, in which case fresh air via intakes is more important.

Can 2 120mm fans bring in more air than a 230mm? I'm pretty sure I can take it out and put 2 120's in its place

They will push similar amounts of air, but the 230mm fan will be quieter.  For a rear 140mm fan try this  http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=80364

you have a 200mm fan in the front (230 is measured from the outside and is wrong, i bought the same fan for my rig)

keep the 200mm fan in the front

keep the shroud/cover

what about a red corsair af140 for the rear and if youe really concerned about case temps (and i highly doubt yo should be) just get another ccoolermaster 200mm red fan for the top of the case, job done.

can we get a side on pic of the setup?
the rigs ive built so far are nowhere near as powerful as yours but the cases arnt as big either and ive never had temp issues as a result of high case temps.
the HAF series is meant for High Air Flow, if you have a big volume case with lots of cool air being brought in and cpu temps are still too high then maybe its time to get a custom loop....which means a different case.

a rear case fan (even a 140) is going to make a minute differnce to the airflow inside this case unless its some 350cfm delta...
Ive got a aerocool xpredator case lying around which is about the same size and style as a haf x and I cant imagine ever having to worry about case temps.

my 2 cents

Edit: here is the picture

post-15221-0-09470200-1373584823_thumb.j

The 230mm (bitfenix spectre pro) in the front is bigger than the 200mm on the side of my case, I swapped them out and had to turn the 230mm diagonally for it to fit, (it may just be the mounting holes+frame is bigger like you said) i'm using it as an exhaust right now, someone linked me a guide on a different topic that was about airflow in cases, and said for aftermarket coolers to use side fans as exhausts instead of intakes to get rid of the hot air that gets stuck in between gpu's.

I put the noctua nf-f12 in front for now, and I'm going to order one of these for rear exhaust http://www.bequiet.com/en/casefans/260

Also, all the temps in my case are perfectly fine, I was just trying to get my top gpu closer temps to my 2nd gpu, but I assume the 2nd gpu runs cooler because it's not being used at idle and the first gpu is.  (temps are ~40 gpu #1  and ~27 gpu #2)

They probably get plenty of airflow, seeing as 3 120mm's are pulling air in, and a 120mm + 230mm/200mm w/e it is, exhausting.

I took the shroud off and temps dropped a tad, when I stuck my hand in there before, the air down there in the shroud was so much colder than the air in the rest of the case, thats why I took it off.

I just wanted the 140mm so I'd have a fan that fits the hole cut out for it in my haf x, and it'll move more air than my nf-f12
