Hello Guyz ,

I am just planning to buy this system and this would be basically used for mainly VMware virtual machines and less of  gaming.

I am low on budget and planning to best out of it.

AMD FX 8320

GA 970A UD3

Kingston HypeX 8x1 GB DDR3

CM EVO 212x

CM SMPS 500 W ( still deciding the variant -- help me )

AMD RADEON R7 260x or if there is any better 1 GB D5 (low budget plz)

Antec Cabinet

WD HDD 500G

Dell FHD Monitor

NO SSD -- low on budget

Need your help for this rig.

I am looking on more of cores on the system.

Budget/location? Does that budget include an OS/keyboard/monitor?

I am from India and my Budget is close to INR 50K  or you can say 600-700 USD.

I OS and Keyboard separate.

for virtual machines I think you need better single core performance since a lot (or none) of those games support 2+ cores. So I suggest an i5, h81 mobo and stock cooler

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

Appreciate your quick response -- and I yes I will run VMware machines which will individually use the each and every core to the fullest.

Are there any same performance intel 6 core or 8 core CPU within same budget.

I will run the virtual machines as  single servers to test my apps.

Also on Intel will I need stock cooler or after market ??

Stock cooler will be fine but a Hyper 212 EVO or Artic Pro Rev 2 should be fine.

Also, keep in mind to use the "quote" button to respond to people because they otherwise won't get a notification.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

thanks I am quite new to this forum.

So what I get is for per core/thread performance Intel is way better than AMD. Right ?

If yes, then Intel Xeon or i5/i7 would be a confusion for me to decide in same budget !!!!

Yes, Intel's Haswell CPUs have MUCH higher single threaded performance.

A Xeon is an i7 without integrated graphics, and an i5 is an i7 without hyperthreading (so, for someone who wants to do a lot of virtualization and very little gaming, it should be Xeon vs. i7). The reason to consider an i5 would be to get the costs down so you can afford a better gpu -- but if you're not really gaming, then the GPU isn't much of a concern.

With that said, I'd get an i7 (and no gpu) if you're not doing anything graphically demanding and save 6000~INR; and a Xeon 1230v3 + R7 260x if you are doing anything graphically intensive.

Well thanks for clearing all that Mess --

Then I would positively go i7 --

Approx

i7 4790 - 22 k INR

Mobo -- suggest please -- should be able to 16 Gigs and PCI slot for graphic card for future.

Kingston DDR3  8x1 1600 Mhz. - 4500 INR

WD HDD 500 G 7200 RPM - 3000 INR
Monitor - 5500 INR
k/m - 1500 INR
PSU Corsair VS450 - 2500 INR
CAbinet Antec 4000U -- 2500 INR

45000 INR --

Also suggest a decent 1 G D5 Graphic which I  may add later if it comes budget.LOL.

Well, the H81 board I linked will allow you to use 16gb of VRAM. Although, an H81 board MAY not work out of the box with a 4790 -- so either look for a 4770 or an H97 board.

The cheapest H97 board I saw: http://www.theitdepot.com/details-Gigabyte+GA-H97M-D3H+32GB+DDR3+Intel+Motherboard_C13P22270.html

And yes, the stock cooler will be fine.

As for a GPU, should you find yourself needing more gpu power in the future, then I'd look at an R9 270,

I am looking forward to run this system for alteast next 5 years. just FYI.

Also I add the graphics later but I am just curious if that GA Mobo will run that far on high i7 CPU. Since its gets hot and draws good power.

Also i7 basically has HD4600 series which I think can run normal games like FIFA 11 and kind of other and  I will be able to get 1080p on monitor to watch movies atleast in HD without the card.!!!!

Yes, an H81 board can run an i7 no problem. The issue with an h81 board is that it has the potential to not be able to run a 4790 out of the box (if the h81 board is old stock) -- which is why I'd either go with a 4770 (although the 4790 is a decent bit faster) or an h97 board and a 4790. If you want to get 5 years out of it, it might also be a good idea to get a Z97 board and a 4790K, and buy a cooler and overclock (you can buy a cooler and overclock at a later point).

And integrated graphics can EASILY playback 1080p video -- hell, you can playback 4k on integrated graphics -- video playback isn't particularly demanding. As for running Fifa 11, seeing as it's a four-ish year old game, it probably will handle it pretty well, but I don't know what the performance would be like. What I can say is, integrated graphics is easily good enough for lighter games -- like Dota 2, LoL, CSGO, TF2, etc... (I was also able to run Borderlands 2 at low settings 1080p decently on my old GT435m -- which is similar in performance to integrated graphics).

Wow that's one hell of performance on i7 hd4600 series .

Then I can easily drop the idea of graphic card that I can .

I won't OC IT since it will mainly used for testing but not production and it will overclock my budget as well .

Since mobo Z97 i ll check the cost n will see if that falls into my bucket.

I am presuming without OC ANY i7 should be good for stock coolers.

This thread actually changed my mind to the fullest .. It started from AMD FX AND NOW TO INTEL i7.

BUT I SAY AMD IS NOT THAT BAD BUT PER CORE PERDORMANCE IS TRUELY BAD .RIGHT

AMD is good in heavily threaded workflows, but an i7 (and even a Xeon) will outperform it.

I am presuming without OC ANY i7 should be good for stock coolers.

Yeah, the stock cooler is fine for stock speeds -- the issue with the stock cooler is that it can be loud.
