What are you upgrading from? The sweetspot for 1440p is 27", anything below that (size-wise) and I'd recommend a 1080p screen. The 970 can play almost any title at Ultra at 1080p and 1440p.

I'm thinking about upgrading from a Samsung tv (not sure the model sorry)

Basically I was wondering will I see a big increase in picture quality if I upgraded?

Furthermore will a single 970 get 60fps on uktra settings?

And finally if both these answers are yes, what is the best one to get for around £250?

Thank you for your time :)

Yes, its almost twice the amount of pixels!!!!  there is a massive visual difference

yes though not in all games but high/ultra in 90% of games yes

best for £250... not sure they generally start from £300-£350

£289 cheapest I could see

Is the more expensive one really worth the extra £40ish?

Personally I would be looking at getting the Asus PB278QR/AOC Q2770PQU as they both use a really good samsung PLS panel which is better for gaming and still very colour accurate

but what it costs, and what its worth to you, is your choice

I think with a 970 it's more a question of 144Hz 1080p or 1440p?

1080p 144Hz Cheapest:

1440p 60Hz Cheapest:

wait a lousy month... there will be a bunch of freesync monitors for the price you are willing to spend

thats my suggestion anyway, u can opt out of variable refresh rate ofc, by keeping that nvidia card...  doesnt seem like you have the budget to go gsync

Yesh.

1440p = 2560x1440 = 3,686,400 pixels

LG super wide = 2560x1080 = 2,764,800 pixels

1440p actually has 33% more pixels than the super wide LG.

More pixels to drive = lower performance. At 1440p you will get roughly 75% of the fps compared to the LG monitor.

Oh ok thanks mate, I think I might go ahead with the Benq one looks great!

I moved from 1080p 24" to 1440p 27" with a 970 and I think it is absolutely worth it

As to picture quality, I find that it is extremely noticable in games, even more so when you are web browsing, working etc. For productivity alone, I find that the extra screen real estate of 1440 and 27" to be worth it.

If you turn filters *off* in newer titles, you can definetly play on ultra or very high so long as you are not expecting epic frame rates. With my overclocked 970 I get about 50-55 FPS average in FC4 on ultra so long as my filters are off.

Well dying light was programmed by repeatedly throwing a keyboard at a wall, so that figures.

What do you mean by filters?

Often used as a catch-all term to refer to Antialiasing, Ambient Occlusion, depth of field, and other such effects that cost a lot of processing power to add to a game while providing marginal benefit.

One good thing about high resolution 1440p+ displays, is that the whole image is so large and the ppi (pixel density) is high enough to make aliasing (jaggies) exceedingly hard to notice.

So you can actually disable all AA (anti aliasing) to let you keep a higher framerate, without losing out on image quality.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Tbh I don't really see that much of a difference at 1080p with AA on or not
