reviving an old pc

Go to solution Solved by LexCalifornia,

I'm using 64bit

And I'm sorry to say I tried that already a couple of times xs thanx though

Have you tried cleaning the registry? (CCleaner?)

What about you try to reseat the GPU? I mean, it apparently works but just to be sure you know.

Also what about an older version of Catalyst Drivers?

Try this one:

http://www.oldapps.com/de/ati.php?old_ati=12808

To me it sounds like something in Windows broke.

Do you have another GPU you can put in? If so uninstall the GPU via Devices and take it out. Put in another one, start it up, use Windows drivers. Uninstall that one, reinstall your AMD 7770 and fire it up again.

Edit: And also check your HDD using crystal disk. See if there's something wrong with it. (Bad sectors, etc).

Aaaaaaaaand maybe check Bios if the PCIe is the first to use GPU.

Hey Guys,

Lately i've been trying to revive an old computer and everything went fine, I installed a Sapphire HD7770 and i was able to install the drives and eveything.

As a last step in my project i wanted to reinstall a clean windows 7. but after i did this i was no longer able to install my GPU drivers.

The computer is contains:

AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 2.6GHZ

2.5 GIG RAM

and like I mentioned before a AMD HD 7770

I tried to reinstall the drivers in safe mode, did basicly evrything i could think of.

Any one else got an idea to make this thing work again ?

Can you access the internet after installing Windows? You can simply download the drivers for AMD from there.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

That was the first thing I tried. But after installing the drivers I get a code 31 in my device manager

Is your clock up to date in both your BIOS and in Windows? As in "the time is 7:00 PM" clock.

Did you definitely get the Windows 7 driver for the 7xxx series card?

My clock is on time and yes I used the windows 7 drivers

If you could please use the "Quote" button to get back to people that would help out immensely :)

Did you install Windows with the GPU installed or did you swap GPUs?

It's very weird that you wouldn't be getting the drivers from AMD. Maybe you should clear your CMOS battery and try again?

Uhm, just an idea.

Do you have Windows 32bit or 64bit installed? Code 31 is just "missing driver"

First: Driver Sweeper - Clean old or wrong drivers

Windows 7 64bit AMD Drivers:

Latest: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+64

Give it a try.

So i decided to Try and install an older GPU a AMD HD 5000 series which didn't seem to work with the most recent drivers either but after installing old AMD drivers it worked, and i guess it will do what i intended it to do with the HD 5000 instead if the 7000 thank you guys for the tips ;)
