My motherboard is a Msi b85-g41 please tell me how to do it guys! Seems so simple but I dont know :(

Don't you need 2+ Hard Drive or SSD's to set up RAID?

Yes, but he says he has 2 1tb WD Blue hard drives.

Are you sure you're motherboard supports raid? @Jev96

You can't just setup RAID like that if windows is already installed. You need to have windows in a separate partition if you want to raid them now without reinstalling windows

Leave it. Save your pennies and get a ssd instead. The ssd will be vastly faster than any hhd, RAID or not and you don't have the knowledge to run RAIDs yet.

you have to set up your raid array before you install windows.

not the other way around

JBOD allows any two drives to configured together in a raid 0 array. they dont have to be identical

don't need an SSD, it's a network pc for a small office which we back up all the time, so raid 1 will help a lot just in case my drive messes up again like it did, I almost lost 100's of clients data last week and I don't want that too happen again

yeah i'm happy with just reinstalling it it doesn't bother me. I just wanted to see if it made a difference but it doesn't :( it never connected it before and doesn't do it now :(. It's under something like sata configuration and I finally found that, but the thing it that it has AHCI and IDE or whatever the other one is, but doesn't have raid :(

Have you looked for the setting in the BIOS?

But that's the point. You only HAVE one drive. In RAID1 the second drive is a mirror. To the O/S it doesn't exist. If C: goes down, you can remove it and magically there is still a C: drive in the machine.

While RAID1 is certainly a solid step in the right direction it isn't a backup plan. You need to have some sort of backup arranged to run every night, rain or shine, preferably offsite. You can charge for the service. It HAS to be done to assure the safety of the data your clients.

Please understand what I mean. I haven't even set up the raid in the bios! So it can't possibly be in raid, 2 drives still show up in windows. I have the msi b85-g41 military class 4 with 'super raid' and no where is telling me what that means, it gives me no option to activate raid. What is super raid?

I have no idea what they think they mean. According to their own website:

Super RAID is MSI Software utility to set up Rapid Start, Smart Response and Smart Connect by just one click. It can tell each chipset SPEC and adjust its support function.
Please be advised that Intel Smart Response is required to perform RAID
Therefore, H81/Q85/B85 do not have RAID support, but they still can support Rapid Start and Smart Connect.
Please refer to the following chart for further info.

So does that mean that the B85 chipset doesn't support RAID? If not, why advertise it? If it does but this utility doesn't support it, why include the utility? And is there another way to access RAID then? I think that a deep dive into your m/bd manual is necessary and maybe an email to MSI. It certainly doesn't make sense as it stands right now.

Ha, I think I might just give up and go back to backing up my files on an external drive, it clearly says 'Super raid' on the front, this is the main reason I bought this specific motherboard, was gonna go with Asus but they're obviously a bit more expensive but now I wish I did, can't ever go wrong with Asus and i've never tried any other board but now I think in future I shall just stick to Asus and Gigabyte. Thanks to everyone who took the time to help me, I really appreicate it.

Hey Jev96,

The MSI b85-g41 motherboard does not support RAID. It does have the Super Raid option which enables the usage of a SSD to cache a HDD. It also enables TRIM function when you have two or more SSDs in RAID0 but with a separate RAID card. The motherboard itself does not support conventional RAID.

Well, that sucks. And I'd call that false advertising. Sorry Jev96. It seems it's not to be.
