Objective2 + ODAC Combo Questions

Hello I have a pretty good Gaming PC and im looking for upgrade my sound to my current system, I came across DAC's a few days ago and im interested in maybe buying one however there is a few questions im not sure on atm before I make my mind up and this place seems to be the best place to ask about these things.

At the moment in my PC I have a ASUS Xonar DX soundcard with a  Creative Gigaworks T20 Series II 2.0 Speaker System which im thinking of upgrading both.

Ive been looking at the Mayflower Objective2 + ODAC Combo but im not sure on a few things first.

I usually use my Pc for gaming and listening for music and movies etc etc.

Question 1. Is it worth me getting the headphone AMP combo with the DAC the reason for this is my current headphones im using is Corsair Gaming CG-H2100 Dolby 7.1 Wireless Headset. This headset is wireless and uses software to produce the sounds. Can I still use them with the dac?

Question 2. If I got the dac alone or with the combo how to plug it into the pc. Does the usb cable put into the speakers or the motherboard etc. I cant seem to find any instructions on setting up the DAC with the PC.

Question 3. Once the DAC or the combo is connected to the PC the sound will come though as Stereo will games and stuff work with it. Compatibility with windows and games etc.

If im correct on a few things. If everything works as I think. I can play games in stereo though the DAC and if I want surround sound I can just put my headphones on, is that true?

1. those headphones will not work with a dac, those are wireless headphones they have a dac and amp built into the earcups. also the fact that theres an usb dongle.

2. USB port in pc -> Dac -> Amplifier -> heaphones with 3,5 or 6,4mm jack. Not the other way around.

3. You will need an amplifier if you buy a Dac but other than that, yes.

Thanks Snazzy for your answer just another quick question.

Could I use the  ODAC Combo which has the amp for a headphone built in, can I use that for the PC only I don't have to bothered using a headphones do I. I basically looking for better sound for the pc and since I have a pretty good wireless headphone only I don't need to buy another one.

Use that for PC only? What do you mean?

ODAC combo will extract digital sound data from PC, convert it into analog signal. The amp part then amplify the signal. Now, without any sound producing devices (headphones, speakers), what are you trying to achieve?

Oh and honestly, if audio quality is an important thing to you, with that budget ready (for the ODAC combo), get a good pair of audio headphone. Rule of thumb in audio: wired headphone > wireless, and good stereo > virtual surround thingy.

Sorry I didn't explain myself enough. What I meant is could I use the dac combo instead of my soundcard and use it though my pc speakers and play games "without headphones if needed,  watch movies and play music. Ive got good enough headphones already do I don't need to use the combo with that.

If the ODAC combo is to be used for (powered) speakers, then yeah. Powered, not passive, as passive ones need a speaker amp. But then again, if the purpose is for driving powered speakers, 95% chance you won't be able to tell the difference between ODAC combo vs onboard or the DX, not unless the onboard and/or the DX are faulty at the moment. It's a redundant purchase, if the ODAC combo is only used for speakers.

1 - I'd upgrade your headphones first.

2 - It's a plug and play USB, just set the ODAC as the default device.

3 - It will not effect any compatibility with any software. Surround sound is processed in in-game software or third party programs - This won't be effect compatibility wise with the ODAC.
