Adding new storage device problems

Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,

the diagnostic test has been going for 3 hours now, and this came up.

I'm going to try the hard drive in a totally new sata port on the same computer.

The WD DLGD indicates that the drive has too many bad sectors which means the drive has failed. I would suggest testing the drive on another computer with this tool (or at least on another port) and see if this result is confirmed. If yes, you would have to replace the drive through the RMA procedure. If not, the problem is probably in the SATA port or the cable.

Captain_WD.

Built new computer, put OS on SSD, other SSD counts as storage. My last medium of storage is a 1TB Green WD drive that will not format or become accessible.

The provided screenshots show my computer specs and the Computer Management screen. Whenever I format the drive it dissapears with an error of it not being updated (which it is) and the next time I turn my computer on it comes back to this same screen.

Thanks Linus you really inspired me to build my own computer and THIS IS THE ONLY bump or trouble i've been having.

I will try to provide you guys with all the info you need but please forgive me because this is my first post on this forum.

Disk 0 and Disk 1 are my SSD's

Disk 2 is the Hard Drive that won't format.

Hello Jetario and welcome to Linus Tech Tips forum :)

Have you tried the drive on another SATA port or on another computer to see if it performs correctly? What happens if you try to delete the volume or try to change the drive's letter?

I would suggest that you download WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and run both the quick and the extended tests to make sure the drive is healthy and the problem is not with it. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=yC0s8N

Ok so the first one is what happens when I delete the volume.

The second one is me running the diagnostic test... The time just keeps going up. I'm gonna let this run and I will be back from school in about 2 hours.

Thanks for your help so far.

Yup, its a bad drive. Oh well I'll just get another one!

Thanks for all your help man, 1000+ internets to you.

Sorry to hear that. A simple RMA procedure should provide you with a replacement and you shouldn't have problems. :)
