Hey folks.

I have reluctantly decided that I should upgrade to Intel, and leave behind AMD. I do both equal parts gaming and editing, but feel that a high-end Intel chip is going to serve me a lot better than something like a FX-9590. Intel is expensive, and it is going to be a hell of a task to get the money to do it, but I am passionate enough about tech, and video editing, that I am willing to work to get it done. I hopefully should only need to replace my motherboard and chip. I am running an M5A97 R2.0, and an X-6300. I would like to spend $450 or less to replace these two for a high-end Intel setup. Boards and chips, though, I don't know.

After I go through the upgrade, I want to list my board and chip on Craigslist, and sell them for about $150. Do you think this is fair, given that these two aren't even a year old yet? (I am in the United States.)

Help. :P

Given that you edit I would do:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($316.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($136.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $453.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Or swap out the motherboard for something slightly cheaper but still supporting SLI

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

I wouldn't pay $150 at all. That's brand new prices.

Maybe around $100.

CPU is $95, motherboard is $90 new. OP's price is $45 lower than new, $100 is an epic lowball.

Alright, so the i7 4790k for the chip, and.. What would be a few options for boards? I have used ASUS for a long time and love them, and Luke's Motherboard video supports my love for them. However, I do not want brand bias. I see the MSi z97, but options are always nice!

I really love my ASUS motherboard, but pretty much any decent motherboard on the market will do. I like the ASUS Z97-Pro (I have one), but it's too expensive probably. The MSI Z97-G55 SLI/Z97S SLI Plus and the AsRock Z97 Extreme 4 offer good features at a compelling price.

It's not bad at all, should do fine.

Question!

I found the MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition board.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130801

After staring at it and drooling for five minutes, I collected myself and clicked the reply button. I have not yet figured out what I am going to say.

Right! I remember! I have the white NZXT Phantom 530, and I have two black custom vinyls on it. All of my peripherals and such are either black or white, and I think this board will go perfect with it. I've heard that largely the Z97 boards vary in features and not in performance, generally speaking. Would this be true? Would it be better or worse than the ASUS Z97-E I linked above?

I really want this board. ._.
