4 way sli/crossfireX scaling is terrible.

3 way scaling is better scaled than 4 way,but still not worth it.

2 way scales pretty decently.

but seriously, 4 way is for those who just don't care about wasting that much money or just filthy rich.

I think its kinda pointless getting 4 sli unless you want serious bragging rights.

I would also not recommend doing it without watercooling the cards. The top three will be completely starved of fresh air to cool themselves with.

Its all bragging rights and Synthetic benchmarks, OC3D Tom even says that if you are considering running 4 GPUs for gaming you are mental or your just in it for the looks and boasting. I run a 4 way 7970 setup and the 3rd card is almost never used in games, the fourth card sometimes degrades performance or just simply acts as a case warmer.

They dont get that hot actually, just make sure you use reference design and you will be fine, my sandwiched cards only ever reach 80c on Furmark

benchmarking or some very very very high res 3D rendering is the only reason i can see to have 4 gfx cards

Asus Direct CU2 7850 at 1GHz 8Gig G.Skill Ripjaws X memory 1333 AMD 6300 at 4.7GHz(hoping to push 5+ with new cooler) 990FXA UD3 mobo all in a way oversized shinobi XL
