Hey guys this is my first time on your forums. I have a desktop that is getting a little old. I can run a lot of games on ultra but now I am seeing it struggle on some of the next gen stuff and I would love to keep up to date. I play pretty much all games from League of Legends to next gen stuff like dying light. so I am looking for a upgrade that could be used for general gaming.  Important things to note: I don't have a specific budget but all the parts will probably be bought over time so for suggestions please make it clear which part I should upgrade right now. I would like to be able to run games at high-ultra at 60 fps or above. I have two monitors I only play games on ONE. and I don't need windows or peripherals.

These are my current specs.

CPU: i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80 GHz

GPU: AMD Radeon HD7800 ( (R7850 Double disabator)

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Mother Board: Biostar T5XE CFX-SLI Ver. 5.x

Power Supply: I don't know because for some reason I couldn't find the sticker that told me what wattage it was. Although my GPU requires 500 Wats or greater so maybe that will give you guys a hint.

Disk Drive: WD Blue bought within 2014.

Case: Corsair Carbide Series 400R Graphite grey and back steel/ Mid

Thanks for helping guys. If you need any more info don't hesitate to ask.

My budget is unknown I am expecting that the first part or combination of parts I get would land me around $300 and then I would purchase the rest at a later date when I have the money. I don't want or need overboard I want practical I don't want to be spending thousands of dollars on this build. Then by location I am assuming that you mean were the computer will be? It will be upstairs in my bedroom on the floor. I prefer a medium to quiet sound level. I hope this answers your questions.

Location meaning Which currency.

Aside from that, you can reuse most of it, but for roughly $300 isn't much of an upgrade tbh.

Generally speaking just to get a decent upgrade would be roughly 500. More or less depending on the GPU .

Here are my two opinions:

1. Well if you're willing to risk it, you can OC your processor. You will see a substantial improvement on your FPS specially with PhysX heavy games.

Before my current build I used to run with an LGA1366 i7 920 Bloomfield processor @2.67 ghz with a Palit GTX 670 Jetstream as the GPU. I was getting an average of 50fps on Borderlands 2 with occational dips to the 40s and 30s.

After some people on the forums convinced me to just overlock instead of upgrading, I bit the bullet and did it (my first time overclocking a cpu), got my processor to 3.8ghz and immidately saw an FPS improvement on Borderlands 2 which averaged at 60fps.

If you have a successful OC, you'll probably extend the relevance of your processor for another year or two.

2. I'm concerned about your PSU. Normally, highend (or at least good brand PSUs) have stickers or markings that are near impossible to remove. Does your PSU have a particular brand? If not, I suggest this is the VERY FIRST thing you upgrade.

I could overclock it. I do have water cooling on it so I could but I know nothing about OCing. So it seems like a risky option for me. To quell your concern about the power supply it does have a sticker it is just in a place where I would actually have to remove it from the case to see the wattage.

-That GPU is fine but I would suggest a Gigabyte G1 gaming card since you could OC pretty easy with that card, but if your not looking to OC the one you picked is fine.

-The CPU is not a bad choice but I think you should spend the the extra $30 for a i5 4690k and get a h100i later on so you could OC the CPU.

-the motherboard is good nothing to change there.

Cool, may I know what brand? In any case, if you do decide to upgrade your PSU, try ones from Corsair, Seasonic or Antec I found those brands to be the most reliable.

I will try to get you the brand.

But I have found this Alienware build on craigslist. For $550 Let me know what you guys think of this compared to what I am thinking of upgrading. Try to be specific because I am not to Nola gable on computer parts. Thank you :)

"Alienware X51 R1. It works perfectly, the only problem being the side of the case is loose, but will not fall off by itself. This does NOT effect the performance of the computer. Comes with a new disk of Windows 7. It will play ANY modern game on highest settings perfectly, without lag. It is also very small and can fit under a desk. Monitor not included. Bought for $1400 selling for under half that.

Specs

Intel i7-3770 Ivy bridge 3.4-3.9x4

16 Gb DDR3 Ram

2 Tb 7200 rpm hard drive

Nvidia Ge-force Gtx 660 with 2gb of video memory."

Alright guys I have downscaled a little. Trying to decrease the price. These are the two builds I am thinking of. One is intel and one is AMD. I am leaning towards the AMD build just because it can save me around $150. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks :)
