Windows being derpier than before...

Alright, so about two weeks ago, something updated on my grandma's computer, and it has been acting goofy since. I can't make another user account without explorer crashing when I open something like system properties or games, Firefox won't install on other accounts, and there's a whole list of problems besides that. I just now managed to get games to open on my grandma's account and install Firefox (I can't install Flash or it will crash). I've scanned for viruses multiple times, cleaned up trash files and the registry, and all to basically no avail.

 

Along with that, some programs refuse to uninstall.

Is it time to get my shit together, get CrashPlan ready, and back her stuff up, so I can replace this 3-4 year old install of Windows? Or is there a hidden gremlin I have to find and kill?

 

EDIT: Apparently I can't go to http://www.weebly.com either, since it makes Firefox crash.

Go to safe mode and scan with defender and malwarebytes, also AVG has a rescue disk.

Go to safe mode and scan with defender and malwarebytes, also AVG has a rescue disk.

I've already done that... And AVG sucks.

 

Use Linux via boot cd or vm to backup the files to an external hard drive.

Um... I have CrashPlan to use...

Time to bring out the Windows disc.

There is a recovery partition which I would prefer using, but how the hell do I actually use it?
