I mean.... damn. Good for you if you can spend that much. The 980 will be more than powerful to game on 1080. Everyone says you only need 8GB of RAM, but a lot of games are pushing the limit of 8GB or very near, so if you can afford 16GB go for it.

The i7 and 16 gbs of ram is more than what you need for gaming. A 4690k and 8 gbs of solid ram would be just fine.

You do not need a 1000W PSU. 650-750W will be more than enough (750W does also give you enough headroom for possibly adding a second GPU later).

If you're not doing any video-editing or tasks like that, 16 GB of RAM is overkill. I hardly ever go above 5 GB used when gaming, even with a fair amount of background programs running.

Some people might consider the i7 to be a useless upgrade over an i5-4690K if you're just gaming, but it's not a problem to have the i7 if you have the money (and the i7-4790K does have a higher stock clockspeed, which is always nice).

I might grab a bigger SSD with the money you save from ^those things.

Name for me one game that actually utilizes that much RAM.. Look at task manager while you're playing a game, and give me one game in which your total RAM usage goes above 5 or 6 GB.

RAM is still kinda expensive, so getting too much is just a waste of money. If he needs to upgrade in the future, it's always very easy (and probably cheaper too) to toss another 8 GB in when he needs it.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

hey bud :) Looks awesome aha, if you want to save some money you dont really need that hella fat psu a 750gold or 850gold would be great for 1 980 ;) also the i7 4790k is amazing but a i5 4690k would be just fine for gaming. if youre not planning on video editing, 8 gb of ram would be just right for gaming. i have the hyper evo 212 and its a really good heatsink and i recently picked upa extra 8 gb of ram and it made editing videos sooo faster but gaming stayed the same. over all you build is awesome!! :D good luck

1. did you see the monitor she posted? it's an ultrawide. in my opinion, way better than gaming on 2 monitors.

2. 2 970s is better than a single 980, it is basically the same price.

can you explain how is 2 970s better than a 980

notice how the 970 is around 200 dollars less than the 980. that's alot of money. the performances of the 980 is around %20 better than the 970 which is very small compared to their prices.

here are the benhmarks of the 970 and the 980 not sure if my source was reliable

http://puu.sh/ffVpZ/8b9c2c1a6a.png

2 970 is 600 while 1 980 is 500-600.

now if you really really want 1 980, you can go ahead. but all im saying is that 970 sli is more price/performance.

edit: this is my first time legitimately answering a question, if someone more experienced than i am sees something wrong, please tell me nicely x]

From what I can tell

-Saved you money on RAM

-Saved you money on mobo

-Better SSD

-Saved you money on PSU

It's a lot different from your build. I definitely agree with EcoBoost's build. Much better for the money.

Also, two 970s will whoop a single 980. Not sure who told you one 980 is better then two 970s.

And dual-monitor gaming is pointless.

Dude, a lot of parts were changed aside from just graphics cards and monitors, although two 970s is better then one 980 and an ultrawide is better then gaming on two separate monitors, which, like stated above, is pointless because you'll just have bezels right in the middle.

Your build used a lot of overkill parts like HyperX Beast and 1000W PSU that were just wasting money. Look closer at my build and see the difference.
