I am going to a school event where tech and science companies sponsor students by paying their university fees and anything else that they require that is linked to their chosen career (a lot of money i might add). I might ask if they will sponsor me, and if they say yes, i could ask for some money for replacement parts for my rig or to build a new rig

(before you all start going nutty about how my rig does not need upgrading, i have had several hardware related issues:

Coil Whine

Random Shutdowns and restarts

Crashes

and BSODs (all due to "hardware errors")

My maths teacher says this is a good idea since he knows companies at that show who sponsor students like this ( as i want to study computers, parts for a new rig that will last me though University is not a bad idea)

What do you guys think?

Yeah, it's always smart to go into new opportunities.

What would you have to do for those companies after they sponsor you?

Sounds like a great idea.

Maybe suggest some crazy custom project to show your enthusiasm.

Yeah, my maths teacher said it is a good idea, especially if i want to study it

(and i asked him about watercooling if they allow it within my budget: he said that it is worth it in terms of noise and cooling, but is highly risky (he once killed a 7800GTX by a leak in his custom loop when he started watercooling 10 years ago)

Look VERY CLOSELY at the contract that they make you sign and make sure that everything on it is ok too yo and so forth ask them for clarification if necessary. Bottom line make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.

Seems like a good plan, but as @Ahaber said, be sure to read the contract very carefully, because you want to know what you are getting into.
