Hello everyone, I want to stream my CS gameplay to twitch. I'm upgrading to gigabit soon, network will not be a problem. I wonder if my current setup is okay with streaming, do I need a capture card? I intend to stream via Shadowplay.

 

Now here's the trick question, it is about donations. I hope I'm good enough to receive donations, how do I collect them? What do you look for in a stream? I intend not to reveal my face as anonymity is important to me. Also, at what timing would you guys watch streams? I hope to stream at a suitable timing.

Actually, I meant collecting the donations. I'm not a girl man... I have little respect to female streamers relying this to gain donations etc, glad that Twitch enforces the rule.

I know that was the reason for the video with the bra that linus put on.

all jokes aside though, the way you can get donations is by usually regularly streaming, often enough the you can get viewers that come back, then eventually the donations will start. you might have to bring it up once or twice in a stream though.

So how do you get the donation money? You have to link twitch to your bank account is it?

No, if you are just doing pc games, you should be fine. Capture cards are more for console streaming and recording.

I see... Now all I need to do is to change my damn headset. My current Vengeance 1500's mic is fking soft, I'll have to turn my Custom One Pro into a headset and hope my family members are out when I stream.

To sum up streaming and donations in a nutshell:

 

Do NOT go into streaming expecting money.  DO NOT DO IT.  Expect to get nothing.  Expect no donations.  Expect nothing but lots and lots of trolling.

 

Once you get your expectations in order, the rest should come naturally.

 

I suggest using OBS ( http://obsproject.org) to stream, as it tends to use way less resources than the bloated XSplit broadcasting software, and even more less than Shadowplay, for better performance and quality.  Why this is the case, I'll never know, but it's true nonetheless.

 

Stream at, at the very least, 720p/60fps.  People do not tend to stick to streams of low quality.

 

Talk.  Include your viewers.  Be interactive.  Greet them.  Treat them like your friends.  Even the ones you hate.  People like this.

 

Don't even bother setting up a place for people to donate.  If people aren't asking you, then you're just begging for donations, and people will be less likely to do so.

 

Really, just be yourself.  Have a good time.  Enjoy doing what you do, and make other people enjoy being in your company.  If you seem to be having a good time, chances are, your viewers will be having a good time as well.  If you can pull that off, and you get quite a following, THEN start worrying about donations.  It'll come naturally, at a point.

 

PS - I am a female streamer.  I do not resort to shady tactics to make money from streaming.  I do it legitimately, and do take offense to you disrespecting "female streamers" as a whole, because of the choices of a few.  I have never, and will never, display myself on cam on my stream, and have been doing just fine without it, thank you.
