Activating Crossfire

Go to solution Solved by Briggsy,

once you install your card and drivers, you will want to use the Catalyst control center to optimize each game for crossfire (same deal as nvidia).

step 5: ??

step 6: profit

So after about a week of tracking down a second r9 290 vapor x , i was able to do so and it is arriving in a few hours, i was wondering how , do i activate the crossfire, is it as simple as just inserting the card into my system, or do i have to change some further settings in my computer?

Insert the card into your system and open up Catalyst Control Center, the Crossfire I/O switch is somewhere within the settings. Although I would advise updating to the latest drivers first.

No, if you right click on your desktop, the top most, or one of the top most options should say Catalyst Control Center, or Manager.

Catalyst Control Center as in right click a blank space on your desktop

Never even knew it existed, guess, ill have to check it out once my new keyboard arrives with it since my razer died on me, my main rig is just sitting there, waiting to be used.

There is a 99% chance that once you boot for the first time into windows after installing the card the CCC (catalyst control centre) will actually open and ask you if you would like to turn crossfire on - its all like "oh hai, something requires your attention, would you like to turn on crossfire?"

Assuming your drivers are newer than 2013.

How do you not have Catalyst Control Center? It should come with the graphics card drivers...

As mentioned the R9-290(X) graphics cards no longer require a Crossfire Bridge connecting the card, so all you need to do is enable Crossfire in the Catalyst Control Center.
