normally i would say no , that a total crossover is not worth the money, but....

i have the chance to sell my 990fx and fx-8350 and add $100-120 for a z87 mpower and 4770k. i love my set-up. i love amd, but for only 100 bucks more i could have the 4770k and a z87 that can oc it very well.

one thing of interest to me is pcie 3.0 and much higher ram speeds (my 990fx is 1866 tops)

im thinking im good where im at..but its only 100 bucks thats cheaper than a ssd i was going to get.

No because your 8350 performs the same as the 4770k /s (words straight from your own mouth (fingers) a few weeks ago).

But yes I would do it in a heartbeat most of the time (depending on the games you play, if you only play BF4 then no).

yes i understand i said that, we've been back and fourth for a month over amd vs intel and out of spite i shouldnt have said anything but you are right about alot of things and its only 100 bucks that i was gonna spend on a ssd that i didnt really need.

A 4690k will destroy your cpu in games .

If you can get a i7 even better.

your current mobo is on pcie 2.0?

i know old mobos do, but I've been reading 990fx is a beast (?) and quite very expensive so i assumed these are new boards with current gen lanes...school me mates.lol

AM3+ is very old (relatively) and I believe the Sabertooth 990FX is the only one with it (not sure though). http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FXGEN3_R20/

this is a limited edition board that is no longer available i think...they had a crosshair formula with pcie 3.0 as well...that too is discontinued now..and it was not a real pcie 3.0 it was faked through the chipset and it didnt had all the bandwidth or something i cant remember...

pcie 3.0 16x slot running on PCH? 4x? =)

anyways, i just thought these are the 990fx "beasts" that is required for efficiently OCing 8350..

people say that because most (not all) 990FX motherboard have 6 or 8 power phases and good voltage regulation modules (VRM's) therefore they are good to overclock FX...but some 970 chipset boards borrowed the power delivery system from the higher end 990FX boards and they are cheaper therefore for budget it was better to go with one of these unless you need dual gpu's at x8/x8 (pcie 2.0)

For example, this new board from asrock (8 phase board):

http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty%20970%20Performance/

  1. Supports Socket AM3+ / AM3 processors
  2. Supports 8-Core CPUs
  3. Supports 220W AMD FX-9590 & FX-9370 CPUs ---¨when they say that in front of the box then it means it's really good!
  4. ASRock DuraCap, Digi Power, 8 + 2 Power Phase Design
