So i want to start streaming, and making youtube videos.

I currently have :

r9 290

fx 8350

8gb of ram

I want to purchase a capture card. Will it help me in any way ? I would like to be able to stream 1080p 60 fps, as i'm curently streaming 720p 60 fps. I know a capture card it's necessary for 1080p recording, but will it help me when streaming ?

Also, can you recommend a good capture card ?

Thanks in advance.

if i am not mistaken your card should support amd's native software http://www.amd.com/en-us/markets/game/downloads/raptri would check that out first before spending any money unnecessarily.

And obs (open broadcast software) is free if I am not mistaken. hope this helps,

an after thought. please don't spend any money trying to do this there are many ways you can get what you want for free completely legitimately. im sure others will chip in and help here.

My rig: 5820k 48Gb DDR4 Gskill Ripjaws, m.2 pcie samsgung 256Gb boot, rampage v extreme x99, 2x asus 980 strix  14.5 Tb other ssds and hdds. Laptop: Lenovo Y510P. Peripherals: G13 /RAT 7 /Corsair K70 RGB/ FLY 5

I'm using obs for streaming, the thing is i can't stream better than 720p 60fps, in most games i stream. Also, i'd like to record if not stream, in 1080p, 60 fps. That's why i'm considering buying a capture card. But then i've heard that there's not going to make any difference when it comes for streaming using obs, and i can't understand why, since the capture card will do the encoding, and not the cpu.

No, a capture card will not help. Your FX-8350 already has sufficient multi-threaded performance that it uses the extra unused cores for capturing. The problem you're running into is that your cores are weak as individuals, and games need them to be stronger for better performance. At least, that's what I would guess. What games are you playing/capturing?

Also, on intel cards with an iGPU, there is a feature called Quicksync, which means the encoding is done on the iGPU instead of a CPU core, which is why people say it doesn't help. Your CPU doesn't have an iGPU, let alone quicksync, so this doesn't apply to you.

I believe software is the best option here, but I am not sure which supports 1080p60 outside of Nvidia ShadowPlay  AMD's new software might work I think it is called replay......something....

I am addicted to building gaming PCs but I don't have a great reason to stop...yet...
