Using an MSI Z87 MPower Max AC motherboard, and an EVGA Supernova Nex750B1 Power Supply. The CPU power cable (Which I assume I need for the 4790k) comes with a 4+4 Mulex: The problem is one of the 4's is correct (patterned square/dome tips) but the other 4 is all dome-topped, which doesn't match up with the motherboard. There is a second CPU power cable I was going to use as well, and it is the same way. Do I plug the all dome-top tips into the varied ports? Note that the 4+4s are going into 8 slots. This is my first build with modern hardware (last built before DDR3 was a thing lol) and I'm on skype with my friend and he is confused as well.
The "ATX 8-Pin Power Connector"s: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxmbTklAkJ55STE2X3E3MkUzajQ/view?usp=sharing

My friend's attempt at explaining it:

"his problem is (we're in Skype talking about it) that the "cpu connector" has the wrong type of attach. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxmbTklAkJ55T3h4MEdKbjJNbFE/view[1][1]as you can see, they are all the dome ones, they don't have the square corners and domed mid on top. edit: the question is what to do, and what that connector is for"

Posted on Reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2tx8co/troubleshooting_my_44_cpu_power_cables_from_psu/
about it but little help was provided, other than help that wouldn't? work.

Looking for help here.

Are you sure you are using the right connector? You might be using a PCI-E connector for your 8pin CPU.

So I plug the 4 domes into the normal slot and it works fine, right? Just wanna' make sure before I run a test and power this bad boy up.

Yep.

EDIT: Here, a picture of the cable. I have the exact same for my 8pin CPU.

Yep.

EDIT: Here, a picture of the cable. I have the exact same for my 8pin CPU.

So I've hit two alternative problems I was wondering you could help me with.

1) On the VGA 6+2 connectors (to hit the 8 slot of my 970) one of the connectors is supposed to be a square and its dome shaped. It still snaps in fine. Will that be ok? The original 6 work fine, the odd one is on the 2.

2) My PSU only has 3 VGA slots (a hardwired one and two modular ones), but I need 4 (I have two 970s ready to run in SLI). Is there some adapter I can buy to give myself an extra slot (I'd also need an extra cable I assume, as the PSU only came with 3).

First one is fine.

You can get molex to PCIe adapters. Search on somewhere like Newegg or Scan to find one.
