GTX 960?

Go to solution Solved by 79wjd,

need nvidia for shield and shadow play

970 it is then.

/I'm just going to include this before all the Anti-Nvidia five year olds come at me in a stupor: theres also the whole "Nvidia lied" shit going on right now about the 970 having more ROPs and a full 4gb of VRAM, but neither is really a performance issue. Since neither cause issues as sub-4k resolutions, and the 970 isn't a 4k card.

ATM I have a MSI GTX 760 (as seen below in signature) however my hackintosh cant run without fermi freezing (locking up) this is down to GFX card idling, i was thinking of upgrading to the GTX 960, will this be a big improvement as scrolling through Google shopping realized its the same price as when i got my MSI GTX 760. or the 970??

what about the 970?

I'd go with an R9 290/x instead, unless you pay for electricity, in which case a 970 is much more efficient and much cooler.

It is (well, two of them are) but considering how 4K uses between 2.8GB and 3.1GB of vra almost always, it's not an issue even then.

what you mean by two are?

better card for the price? (that is nvidia)

He's saying that two 970s can run 4k, but the issue is they really can't. Even SLI 980s can't properly run 4k.

what about the 970?

The 960 is a waste and probably won't be noticeably better than your 760 (when it worked) in anything other than benchmarks. As pissed as I am about the VRAM gimping, the 970 is an enormous upgrade from a 760.

To be precise, this much of an upgrade. Scroll down for graphics.

That's what I literally don't get about this forum. People argue this shit against people who actively use the technology they're talking about daily. You can literally go out and find any number of benchmarks that will back up 970s in SLI running 4K extremely competantly in a wealth of modern AAA titles, and the experiences of people on this forum (myself included) who are talking about their current gaming PC and monitor, but no you always get some randomer who doesn't have the faintest clue what they're talking about chiming in with some rubbish O.o

45fps at high with frequent drops to 35-40 isn't what I would call properly running 4k.

It wouldn't be. Unfortunately you pulled those numbers out of your arse. That is was a single 970 would be capable of at 4K.

58-67 fps at ultra is decent.

Like literally why are you arguing about my gaming experience as if you know it better than I do? Are you not seeing the massive flaw here?

Show me where SLI 970s is getting over 60fps at 4k@ultra

It's half 10 at night. You can search for your own damned benchmarks, Google is full of them

The arrogance displayed here is astounding.

Most are sitting between 30-45fps with a few getting into the 50s and tomb raider (surprise surprise) breaking 60.

Because they insisted on using Antialising. At 4K. Use some common sense.

FXAA isn't going to tank your framerate by 20-30 FPS.

And Hardocp's SLI 970 review doesn't bode much better in most games.

MSAA will. Go and look at benchmarks where they don't use it. Or better yet actually listen to the experiences of people who actually use the stuff you're making stuff up about?

No need to lash out because you bought two 970s with the intention of 4k.
