The render output unit, often abbreviated as "ROP", and sometimes called (perhaps more properly) raster operations pipeline, is one of the final steps in the rendering process of modern 3D accelerator boards. The pixel pipelines take pixel and texel information and process it, via specific matrix and vector operations, into a final pixel or depth value. The ROPs perform the transactions between the relevant buffers in the local memory – this includes writing or reading values, as well as blending them together.

SMMs are the core clusters used in Maxwell processors.

Each smm contains (i think) 128 cuda cores (Maxwell)

ROPs are Raster Operation Pipelines, rasterization is one of the last stages of rendering and output. SMMs are an organization structure of NVIDIA's Maxwell architecture, basically it's a cluster of 128 GPU cores, a few schedulers, and other things. Grouping things in units like this make it easy to disable cores in groups to create a wide variety of products with different numbers of cores to create all the product tiers. The GTX 970 for example has 1664 cores, as it has three 128-core clusters disabled.

so, if im understanding it corectly it gives a high speed connection to and from the ram modules. So the bandwidth?
