R9 290 cooler

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Out of curiosity, what other GPU's have reference boards?

I'm pretty damn sure that the TriX version has a reference board, the VaporX doesn't. I'l look up the other models, give me a minute.

This list should have all reference board R9 290s: http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/waterblock/3831109868577

That backplate and that waterblock only work on reference boards, so all those cards should feature the reference board. But before you buy something double check a review just to make sure.

I have a reference cooled R9 290, and I want to get a Gigabyte Windforce cooler for it (Or other aftermarket cooler that is an actual board partner design e.g. Asus, Powercolor).

I live in Australia so that's where I need to get it from. Second hand is fine.

Does anyone know any sites or forums?

My GPU History: GTS 250, 7790, 7850, GTX 660ti, 7870XT, 7970, 280X, 280X Crossfire, 290, 290X, Fury X, 390 Crossfire, Fury Crossfire, 1070, 1080, 1080ti.

My CPU History: Pentium 4, Pentium E5300, Core 2 Quad QX 9650, Intel Xeon 1230 v3, 4790K, 3930K, 5820K, 1700, 3700X.

Ebay but usually these coolers won't work since they use a different pcb also the Asus cooler is kinda shit, Get a nice arctic or gelid gpu cooler or mount a watercooler on it with the NZXT bracket.

You can't buy the cooler alone, at least not that I'm aware of. Maybe buy a broken R9 290 with a decent cooler and just mount the cooler onto your card, but keep in mind that the broken GPU has to have a reference PCB, otherwise it would be problematic. The Tri-X R9 290s from sapphire feature the reference PCB, for example, so you *should* be able to buy a broken one (or maybe someone is just selling the cooler) and mount it on your R9 290.

I thought about that but I'm not a big fan of those coolers, had one sag and break under the weight once.

That's a good idea, thanks.

Get the Kraken G10 or the Corsair HG10 and a AIO. Or get an aftermarket VGA cooler like the Raijintek Morpheues or the Artic cooling

Thought about it, but I don't have that kind of money lying around. WOuld love to be able to though

Get a

Corsair 610/NZXT G10

and get a

Corsair H75

and

Liqued Cool

your

290!

Same as above, money is the issue.
