Hey all I want to ask do I violate my warranty by opening my card and changing thermal paste?

Yes, with most companies. The only one that I know that allows it is EVGA, but it's still a good idea to contact the manufacturer to make sure.

With most brands like Asus for example there's a sticker on one of the screws that mount the heatsink. Usually if you break the sticker it will limit your warranty not void it entirely. Thing is that under limited warranty you'll probably have to pay anyway for repairs and such...
