Blue screen on windows start up.

Go to solution Solved by Zero_Hour,

If you have a flash drive, you can get an iso for windows. Install it on another drive and boot from it. You should be able to get all your data off the old one if it isn't dead.

Hey guys,

My friend is having a bit of an issue with his computer. Recently I had built him a new computer, due to money restrictions we have used the same power supply and hard drives.

Old parts in current PC

  • PSU (Unable to find out wattage at this time)
  • WD Hardrive
  • Excelstor Harddrive

New Parts

  • Motherboard [Asus z97I-PLUS]
  • CPU
  • GPU[GTX 660]
  • RAM[hyperx Fury]

When booting a blue screen appears as soon as starting windows shows up(win 7). We have tried doing memory tests and starting it in safe mode with no luck, however when in the bios it runs fine. This leads me to think its to do with the hard drives however they had been working previously before we moved them to the new pc.

Thanks for all your help!

We also ran that. It told us to restore to a previous version which we did but was no help as the problem still persisted. Now it gives us two options, Run the repair utility or start windows. We let the utility run for around 2 hours before we gave up as it was doing nothing.

You do know that Windows doesn't magically recognize new motherboards. You NEED to to a reinstall of Windows when you jump ships going from AMD to Intel or vice versa.

And, try one stick of RAM at a time.

We have stayed sailing on the Intel ship from both pcs. (AMD is out of the equation on this one.)

Thanks for the help. Next time I visit my friend I will do this, hopefully it will work. :D
