looking for a quiet gtx 970 thanks look for the quietest one

Probably the strix since the fans don't spin at idle.

Strix. Fan doesn't even start until it gets to enough load. You can even play non demanding games like League of Legends without the fan spinning.

The blower design? If you're looking for a quiet 970, I wouldn't go with the reference design.

It gets extremely loud when it's under load.

OP are you seriously considering a GTX 970 right now?  I am a huge fan of Nvidia but no way I consider that card until issues/reports of it not properly using memory are dealt with.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

That's easily done with a simple fan profile. The Strix's fans aren't the most silent.

Tried the fan profile thingy with me 970 g1 gaming. didn't work

there isn`t an official reference for the 970 however if there would it would be extremely silent not loud. the reference gtx 980 is very quiet for a stock blower.

amd reference is extremely loud

http://www.craveonline.ca/gaming/articles/814669-current-gtx-970-cant-use-4gb-vram-nvidia-investigating

... and if you search you will find more and more talking about the issue.  Nvidia only made a small statement saying they were looking into things.  Linus and Luke also discussed this on The WAN Show yesterday.

As for a recommendation for a card well I always push Nvidia because with certain games you get better effects with PhysX but if you don't care about that well then no reason to not look at AMD's affordable offerings right now.  Hurry before AMD and retailers push the price back up on the cards cuz they should be able to do so with the GTX 970 and GTX 960 being obvious turds in some respects.  If you really want a GTX 970 wait to hear what Nvidia is going to be doing in the future.  Again they haven't investigated everything and should come out with a statement of some meaning I would assume in the next week or so.

I have the Gigabyte 970, it was decently quiet at idle with the fans only able to go down to 34% which is around 1500rpm I believe. I just bios hacked it so now I can get the fans to not spin so now its completely silent at idle. If you don't feel comfortable bios hacking it then I would go with the Asus or MSI version.
