Hi everyone I'm planning a build since my PC can't run any modern games.

I was planning on upgrading only my GPU, however my poorly placed SATA ports do not allow a full length GTX 970 to be installed.

I can't just replace my motherboard because I have a first gen intel core i5 processor in there and I want to move to haswell at some point anyways.

I live in Bulgaria and the prices here are higher than US (as any other country pretty much).

I have 3 monitors -> 1 widescreen 1080p on which I'll be gaming and 2 1200p secondary monitors for watching porn while browsing the forums.

The main goal is to have a:

Haswell i5 and a GTX 970.

Anything else is going to be AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE (except for the PSU since I don't want to fry my parts, but as cheap as possible here means the smallest wattage that would be enough).

My next paycheck arrives on the first of February so this is when the final decisions will be made.

However so far the cheapest parts I found are:

  • CPU i5-4690K  524BGN -> 461BGN
  • GPUGainward NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970 PHANTOM 799BGN -> 655BGN
  • PSU EVGA. 500W, Active PFC, 80 plus, 120mm fan  95BGN (is this any good?)
  • ASRock, H81M-DGS R2.0, Socket 1150 83BGN -> 73BGN
  • Cooler Master Elite 370, ATX/micro ATX  79BGN -> 65BGN
  • RAM 8GB DDR3 from my old PC - already own
  • 128GB PNY SSD + 1TB HDD WD BLUE - already own
  • Win 8.1 - my university provides me 1 for free

TOTAL: 1349BGN = 772 USD

As I said these can change until the next paycheck but this will be the main vibe of the build (hope I won't miss the discount on the CPU and GPU since they're pretty good).

Are these parts any good?

Any suggestions?

Cpu is overclockable but your motherboard doesn't allow overclocking.

If you want to overclock, you'll need a Z97 board.

PS: Overclocking is not needed, but it seems like you will perhaps be paying more for a K processor then a non-K processor. (Atleast that is sometimes the case in my country)

Get a z97 mobo instead of the H81 since your getting a K series cpu

With this discount I'm paying less for the K version than for the non-K, however It's a valid point.

Can you suggest some good cheap Z97 boards?

EDIT:

I can get this one: Asrock Z97 Extreme 3 | 234BGN -> 202BGN = 115USD
