Hard drive speed tests

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

I installed it, I can't figure out how to run the test...

The buttons on the side of the window. Click those to initiate the test(s). Hit All if you want to run them all.

CrystalDiskMark is what I use.

When doing file transfers, you can view the rate of transfer. Well, at least on Windows.

CrystalDiskMark is usually good but I wouldn't call it perfect. It thinks my mechanical drive reads at 513mb/s and write at 178mb/s. My SSD isn't even that fast.

CPU - FX 8350 @ 4.5GHZ GPU - Radeon 5700  Mobo - M5A99FX Pro R2.0 RAM - Crucial Ballistix 16GB @ 1600 PSU - Corsair CX600M CPU Cooler - Hyper 212 EVO Storage - Samsung EVO 250GB, WD Blue 1TB

That's mega bits per second, right?

mb would actually even be milli-bits :D (which of course doesn't even exist). mb≠MB :P

Yeah I know m is milli and M is mega and b and B is bit/byte respectively. Just thought it was a typo as 512MB/S read on a mechanical drive is insanely fast.

In fact way too fast to be true.

Unless cache is somehow influencing it. But my hard drives don't get any funny readings within CrystalDiskMark.

Neither do mine. And yes, cache would be the only explanation (as can be seen regularly in the astonished reports from people using Samsung's Rapid Mode on their SSDs :D ) - but then again it's technically no longer th speed of the drive itself.
