It would be pointless, the 280 is better, or at least the 280x is. The 280 must be just as good, and probably better with a little OC. 

its just as good but performs better with certain games (im looking at you skyrim HD textures) because of more memory and wider memory bus

Pointless, since the performance wouldn't really change.

 

Also the 280 has 3GBs of Vram versus the 960s' 2GBs.
