they are

The cheaper of those two (Gaming 5 or G45 Gaming) would be a better choice then the Gaming 7 or Ranger, as the G7 and Ranger are the "fancy" boards which are just loaded with features you'll likely never use in order to bump up the price.

The one difference between the G5 and G45 Gaming is the color, the G45 is dark brown + red while the G5 is actual black. In a dark non-lit case you won't notice the difference, but in a white case or in a case with LEDs the Gaming 5 will look nicer.

gaming 7

Can you motivate this with any technical aspects?

Basicly the Gaming 7 if they are on the same price point, does offer a littlebit more value for money feuture wise indeed.

Gaming 7:

  • 8 sata ports
  • 8 usb 3.0 ports
  • 2 pre amps 1 for back audio 1 for front
  • Killer nik e2200 which is a con for me personaly.

Ranger:

  • 6 sata ports
  • 4 usb 3.0 ports
  • Great onboard audio Supreme FX.
  • Intel lan, which is a big plus for me.
  • Key bot

There is also a diffrence in the vreg design of both boards.

I could go deeper into that, but its not that interessting on a Z97 platform to be honnest.

Because both boards will overclock totaly fine.

what is difference in intel lan and killer networking

why is msi lan con for you?

Well the diffrence between intel and killer.

killer provides some QoS software, to prioritise gaming traffic.

Intel nics use cfos for that.

However with Asus rog boards you also get Gamefirst 3 software, which basicly can prioritise gaming packages aswell.

So basicly some kind of the same thing.

Killer claims to be better for gaming with their funky qos software.

But that is just one big load of marketing BS.

In fact the earlie killer drivers where a pain in the ass. But thats allready solved.

Also due the QoS software, killer nic´s have more cpu utilization then intel nic´s.

The reason why i prefer intel over killer nic is because i do allot of virtualization.

Hyper V, Kvm containers, VM-ware, etc.

Which works allot better with intel nic´s.

For gamers there wont be any noticable diffrences between killer and intel nic´s.

Killer is just marketing gimmick BullShit.

I would always take Asus ranger/hero over msi gaming series if money is not an issue. Better software and overall quality. Plus i dislike killer.

No the motherboard won't effect the 970 noticeably, personally I prefer the Gaming 7 to the Ranger

I think that there wont be much of a diffrence between the Asus GTX970 Strix and Msi GTX970 Gaming.

The Asus Strix comes with a nice blackplate, and a single 8 pin power connector.

The Msi GTX970 Gaming, does not have a backplate unfortunatly.

Msi comes with a 8+6 pin power connector. And is slightly higher boost clock out of the box.

In terms of speeds they are very similar.
