Me and my firend who knows nothing about computers really think he can overclock his 3770 core i7 to match my 2600k overclocked to 4.5 GHZ cpu. Can you overclock this chip? He claims you can.

that's not an unlocked chip so I don't think you can, correct me if i'm wrong

You can but it is so limited its not even worth it.

is it a 3770K? that chip over clocks well

if it is just a 3770 non-k it is not meant to overclock at all.

You may however be able to squeeze a couple hundred more MHz out of it by increasing the BLCK

You can probably get it to 4Ghz, but that's it.

Ok, To add more to it he has a Dell computer and I personally don't think his motherboard could even do it.

No K series CPU, no overclock (unless you want to call 4Ghz an OC). Simple. It's not worth it.

i was able to squeeze an extra 257MHZ out of an i3 3220 :). I wouldnt call it an overclock by any stretch of the imagination.

Any chip can be overclocked to that assuming you have liquid nitrogen and know how

does intel only ship k-series sku's to somewhere over the rainbow?

hope they have a microcenter too, cause im looking to move.

You can't overclock an Intel 3770 because it isn't unlocked

You would need the unlocked version the 3770K in order to be able to overclock

You can overclock it but it's limited, you can get around 4 ghz on all cores give or take 100 mhz, some dude even reported a screenshot of a 3770 non k OCed to 4.5 on one core, as i have understood the 3770 non k is a k chip that they could not get to overclock with reasonable voltage to begin with, so they locked it.

Here is the 4.3 OC http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1038722636

And here is a dude OCing in real time:

The key is the z type intel chipset
