I am building a pc this summer and i cant decide which is better a gtx 980 or dual gtx 970......

And also i can't decide which is better the MSI twin frozr or the Gigabyte windforce  both are same price  so it doesn't matter in that term but i don't know about temperature, performance and noise...

the mobo is

Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z97 Socket 1150 Motherboard

or

MSI z97 gaming 5

I also need help with the choice

the cpu is intel i7 4790k aka devil's canyon... it has 16 pci lanes so can it handle the sli?

the psu is evga super nova 850w can it handle dual 970 sli?

the case is thermaltake level 10 gt full tower

I live in Egypt if this can help

May be my questions are stupid! but i am really unexperienced in building pc's this is actually my first build and it's for gaming..

sorry for bad english.. Thanks for your help

I prefer a single card (the 980) but a lot of people have been saying that dual-970's provides more value+performance

What resolution do you plan to use?

The CPU/PSU can handle SLI

the 970SLI is a bit more powerful than the 980 but a single card is more stable than 2 card in SLI
what is the resolution of the monitor which you'll use ?
mobo: MSI 5
GPU: go with the with one which has a higher base core clock

CPU:AMD FX-8320, RAM:Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600, GPU:MSI Radeon R9 280, Case:Cooler Master 690 III, PSU:Thermaltake Smart 650W

msi 5 since it a M.2 port, you may need it

not that much of a difference, I'd go with the twin frozr

so one gtx 980 or dual 970 sli

In the U.S., SLI GTX 970's are only about $150 more than a single GTX 980, while much, much faster. But pricing in Egypt might make that more or less attractive, I don't know.

If you're going to 4K you will probably want at least two GTX 970's, a single 980 might have trouble getting you to 60 FPS in many recent games.

If my understanding is correct, the Windforce cooler on Gigabyte Gaming G1 cards makes contact with the VRMs, which is a pretty nice feature. But I own an MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 right now and I'm very happy with it. I don't think there would be much difference, honestly.

If you were to pick the cheapest prices from SLI 970 (Zotac $316.00 x2 = $632.00) to a single 980 (Zotac $544.00), the price difference is only $88.00 (Prices current as per www.pcpartpicker.com 1/23/2015)  I prefer to buy the most power single card you can afford and see how that works for you.  If you decide to SLI in the future, the option is there and possibly cheaper in due time.  Yes we can all state the obvious, SLI 970 will always beat a single 980, but if you SLI a 980, the performance is better depending how you overclock it.  I have the cheapest 980's in SLI and they perform excellent.  You SLI a 980, the cost difference from a 970 SLI to a 980 SLI is only $176.00.  I say only because that $176 could be a lot for some people and for others, it's nothing.

I have a potato!

remember that he lives in Egypt he can't get those things at these specified prices
