1. Budget & Location
I'm willing to spend about 1000 euros(or slightly more), I live in Europe.
2. Aim
Gaming (Farcry3(heaviest game I will be playing), counterstrike,...)  and ofcourse other things, like browsing these forums, watching Linus's videos, ms office, school-related stuff,...
3. Monitors
1 monitor
4. Peripherals
"Do you also need to purchase peripherals such as keyboards and mice as well as monitors ect." Yes

"Also please tell us if you'll need an OS." Yes, probably windows
5. Why are you upgrading?

I heard a lot of people say that building your own pc isn't hard at all, so I just want to try it.

This way I will (hopefully) improve my understanding of hardware, software, etc and have a decent pc to work with. Win-win situation.

I also see this as a challenge, if I buy the parts and build it myself, it will definitely be a satisfactoy experience.

If I actually build this pc, my intention is to have it around for a very long time.

6. Parts

I already have a provisional list of the parts I'm planning to use:

CPU: Intel core i5 4690

Motherboard: Asrock H97M pro4
Memory: G.Skill sniper series 8GB
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm, 64 MB cache
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 970 windforce 4gb
PSU: Seasonic G-550 80plus Gold 550W
Case: Corsair 350d
Keyboard: Microsoft wireless desktop 2000
Monitor: Absolutely no clue what to buy, something that is not too expensive, but still decent quality.

Note: I will not be overclocking, not now, not in the future.

Any thoughts on these parts, are there any bottlenecks? Will a 550W PSU be enough for this build?
I also read something about overclocking the Gpu(not Cpu) how does that work, do I need an overclockable cpu for that?

Thanks in advance.

Your list looks pretty decent to me. But id recommend getting the Z97 version of that board its only a few bucks more and if you choose to upgrade to a K-series CPU at some point you can overclock it without any problems.

The Z97 variant of the board isn't anything better future wise except the ability to overclock, my assumption because the way he wrote his topic he doesn't want to spend the extra money to get a Z97 board with the 4690K.

Ontopic: The build is really balanced, a good choice of a GPU too!

Any PSU wattage is fine for your build, even 400watts would work perfectly fine.

Peripheral wise, just get any mouse/keyboard you feel comfortable with.

"Gaming" branded peripherals won't really improve your gameplay so you are fine with whatever you are currently using.

You also could get an affordable kb/mouse combo from CM Storm for example.

where exactly in europe?

there arent major bottlenecks, 550W will be plenty

GPUs are overclocked software-wise via msi afterburner, evga precision x etc and you dont need an overclockable cpu for overclocking your gpu ;) in fact you cpu doesnt care too much about that

Monitor-wise you shuld decide your budget first than we may be able to tell you what would be suitable for you :)
